Navy Reserve Captain John Miller, a Vienna resident, recently began a one year tour of duty as the installation director, Joint Area Support Group, Multi-National Force - Iraq in Baghdad where he is responsible for operation and maintenance of facilities in the International Zone. Miller is on leave of absence from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Washington D.C. Headquarters where he is a senior engineer, with nationwide responsibility for public housing energy conservation programs. His wife Jane continues to reside in Vienna; their daughter Virginia Bliss lives with her husband in Atlanta and daughter Rebecca attends Old Dominion University in Norfolk. Both daughters are James Madison High School graduates.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine appointed Chas W. Roades, Jr. of Vienna, to the Health Information Technology Council, created by executive order earlier this month. The Health IT Council is charged with recommending the most innovative and effective investments for the $1.5 million appropriated by the General Assembly to encourage the adoption of electronic health records throughout the Commonwealth. Roades was the executive director of research for the Advisory Board Co.

Vienna resident Terry Samway will be participating in Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17.
