Hobby Shop Offers Postal Services

Store Owners Provides Convenient Service

Rider Hobby Shop, located off of Dranesville Road in Sterling, is now home to a U.S. Post Office.

Frank Lyons, owner of the store, said he opened the post office to provide Sterling residents a convenient place to pick up mail and send packages.

There are five U.S. Post Office locations in the area, including Sterling, Cascades, Great Falls, Reston and Herndon.

"We sit in between those five post offices," Lyons said.

THE POST OFFICE accepts mail Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lyons one-stop shop offers the same services any U.S. Post Office does, with the exception of a few things. It does not accept bulk mail, house post office boxes, take passport photos or accept money orders. Due to the high cost of fees, Lyons does not accept credit; however there is an ATM inside the store for customers’ convenience.

Rider’s Hobby Shop offers Sterling residents an alternative post office with no lines and quick service, Lyons said.

"It’s a win-win situation for the U.S. Postal Service and the consumers," he said.
