Reston Without Criminal Trends

Assistant commander of the Fairfax County Police Reston station, Lieutenant Andy Hill, briefed the Reston Association board on police activity in the Reston area at RA’s June meeting.

In the past six months officers from the station engaged in a number of traffic initiatives, promoting safety among Reston’s drivers and pedestrians. According to Hill, over the past six months Reston saw a reduction in all areas of crime, except for vehicle tampering and stolen automobiles. During that time period officers from the station closed a burglary series within a month after it started and a vehicle tampering series within a couple of weeks after it started.

Reston officers were also successful in making apprehensions in a spree of two armed robberies, which happened an hour-and-a-half apart from one another, making an arrest less than two hours after the crimes occurred. Hill added that there are currently no criminal trends in Reston. "As far as any trends, we don’t have any right now," he said.
