One of Alexandria's most successful programs for Latino students is poised for growth based on an agreement between the Boards of Directors of Bienvenidos and The Campagna Center. The Building Better Futures program, which was launched by Bienvenidos in 2003 to help Latino and English as a Second Language (ESL) students prepare for a successful college experience or rewarding career, will come under the full administration of The Campagna Center, effective July 1.

In 2006, Erik M. Pelton ranked sixth among all attorneys filing applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, according to the 2006 Annual Edition of "NameProtect's Trademark Insider." For the third year in a row, Mr. Pelton has earned a top 10 ranking. In 2006, Mr. Pelton filed 381 trademark applications last year, and since 1999, has represented clients in more than 1,500 trademark applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The Hawthorn Suites Hotel in Alexandria has launched a complete, multi million dollar renovation that covers all -new public areas and significant upgrades to all of the 185 all-suite accommodations. The renovations, that will be completed by Fall 2007, feature a stylish, contemporary décor and numerous extra comforts and conveniences for business and leisure guests alike.

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) today announced that John D Barnes has been named APTA chief executive officer of the American Physical Therapy Association, effective July 16. Barnes will succeed retiring APTA CEO Francis J Mallon, Esq.

Jacques L. Ford was named the new chef de cuisine at Indigo Landing, in Alexandria. Ford will assist Executive Chef Bryan Moscatello in the daily operations of this waterfront restaurant on Dangerfield Island, renowned for its delicious low country fare, since its spring 2006 opening. A native Washingtonian, Chef Ford received his culinary education at L‚Academie de Cuisine, graduating in 1993. In 1998, he also went on to pursue additional training at the French Culinary Institute in New York City, specializing in bread baking and pastry making.

Valerie Huffman, Regional Vice President of Weichert, Realtors and instructor of its Management Awareness Program (MAP), announced that 15 sales associates have graduated from the program this month. March MAP graduates from Virginia include Heidi Kabler- Alexandria/Mount Vernon.

Several sales associates from the Weichert's Alexandria/Mount Vernon Office have been honored for their achievements in March. Chairman's Club member Becky Leikheim led the way in dollar volume and revenue units, earning the honor of top producer for the second month in a row. She is also a member of the President's Gold Club, signifying a high level of sales financed through Weichert Financial. Chairman of the Board Elite Club member Jose Flores topped the branch in listings, while President's Club member Heidi Kabler led the office in listings sold. Earning the honor of top seller was Marilyn Trudeau, a member of the President's Club.

Several sales associates from Weichert's Alexandria/Belle View office have been honored for their achievements in March. Earning the honor of top producer for the month was Michael Downie, who led the office in dollar volume, revenue units and sales. Downie is a member of the Chairman of the Board Club at Weichert. Leading the way in listings sold for the month was David Williams, a member of the Million Dollar Club.

Christine Garner from the Alexandria/Old Town Office has been honored for her achievements in March. Garner earned the honor of top producer, leading the way in dollar volume, revenue units, listings, listings sold and sales. She is a member of the Chairman of the Board Premiere Club and the Chairman's Gold Club, the latter signifying a high level of sales financed through Weichert Financial. In 2006, Garner finished No. 1 in Weichert Family of Companies dollar volume, out of all sales associates from over 50 local Weichert offices.

Kim Farina has been named branch manager of its Alexandria/Old Town Office. Prior to being named manager at Alexandria/Old Town, Farina managed Weichert's Burke/Fairfax Station Office for nearly two years
