Aces Looking For Host Families

The Alexandria Aces, in its inaugural season as the newest member of the eight-team Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League are still looking for host families. According to team president Pat Malone, only 18 of the 30 have current homes, and additional volunteers are needed.

The Aces are asking families to house the players from early June through the course of the season, which ends in early August. The league depends on its players housing with willing local families as way to build a relationship within the community.

Alexandria, which will play with wooden bats, has three Virginia natives on the roster, but also tout players from California, Florida and Michigan.

Interested parties should contact Catherine Roper at 703-966-7202 or via e-mail at catherine@alexandriaaces.org

Other franchises of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League, in its fourth season, include the Bethesda Big Train, College Park Bombers, Herndon Braves, Maryland Redbirds, Rockville Express, Silver Spring – Tacoma Thunderbolts and the Youse’s Maryland Orioles.

Alexandria will have its season opener at 7 p.m. on June 6 at Four Mile Run Park.
