Painting the Town

Local paintball team participates in national competition.

Adrenaline. That is the word that crops up constantly when talking with people about the sport of paintball. Ask some of the players on the Loudoun-based paintball team 703 Haze and they will tell you that playing air ball, a version of paintball with large inflatable blocks that are used for cover, is an adrenaline rush like no other. The team, comprised of players ranging in age from 15-18 and now in its third year, is taking part in the national PSP (Paintball Sports Promotions) 2008 season, in which they will be competing around the country in D3 X-Ball tournaments, for the first time.

"I started playing three years ago or so in seventh grade," said Kendall Caldwell of Sterling, one of the members of team 703 Haze, "It’s not like any other sport. With other sports it gets a bit boring, with paintball it’s just so much fun and you get such a rush out of it."
