On the Ballot

<lst>On Nov. 4, in addition to selecting the new president, Loudoun County residents will go to the polls to elect U.S. Senate and House of Representatives members. The ballot will also include referendum questions for capital improvements and the establishment of a countywide meals tax.

<lst>The deadline to register to vote or update an address for the November election is Monday, Oct. 6.

To register to vote, an applicant can fill out a form through the Department of Motor Vehicles or go to a local library or community center to get a form. Forms can also be downloaded at www.sbe.state.va.us. Applications must be mailed to: General Register, County of Loudoun, 26-C Fairfax St., S.E., Leesburg, VA 20175.

If a resident is already registered to vote at his/her current address and has not moved, the voter registration is still valid. But if a resident does need to register or update an address, it must be done by the registration deadline in order to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

Voters can check their current registration status online and update their address if it is not current.

Submit a notice of name and/or address change either by mail to: 801 Sycolin Road, S.E., Suite 102, Leesburg, VA 20175-5686 or by fax to: 703-777-0622.

In either case, the notice must include your signature to be valid. Notice cannot be made by telephone or by e-mail.

After the change is processed, the resident will be mailed a new Voter Information Card. If a new card does not arrive within a few weeks, call 703-777-0380 to confirm the change was received.

Eligible voters must be 18 years of age before election day, current U.S. citizens and residents of the county.

Voters must also show valid identification at the polls, acceptable forms include:

* Virginia Voter Information Card

* Virginia driver's license or special identification card issued by the DMV

* Valid United States passport

* Military ID card

* Any federal, state or local government-issued ID card

* Employer-issued photo ID card

* Social Security card
