Sea Apprentice Clayton Harris Crandall, son of Woody and Kathy Crandall of Clifton, graduated from the Navy Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL, on May 2. His graduation was attended by his parents, uncle and his grandfather. His brother is currently assigned to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC. During Recruit Training, SA Crandall served as his Division’s Master-at-Arms. Presently SA Crandall is attending the Navy’s Operation’s Specialist (OS) Rating "A" School at Great Lakes with graduation expected in early July 2008 followed by Leave before reporting to his permanent Duty Station.

Air Force Senior Airman Alexander R. Gunera has arrived for duty at Yokota Air Base, Tokyo, Japan. Gunera, an assistant crew chief, is assigned to the 374th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. The airman has served in the military for six years. He is the son of Carmen Lizama of Wrexham Road, Oak Hill. His wife, Sonia, is the daughter of Dario and Obdulia M. Espinola of Reedie Drive, Wheaton, Md.

Second Lt. Christopher Brian Romano is a recent graduate from the 50th graduating class of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was awarded a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. Christopher is the son of Col. (retired) Sebastian and Diane Romano.

Growing up within an Air Force family, he moved and changed schools often. He enters the military in his father’s and his sister Kathryn’s footsteps. Christopher began his formal education in Centreville at Cub Run Elementary. At Cub Rub his love for space travel was encouraged. Christopher grew up watching the space program, sometimes refusing to go to school unless he could watch the shuttle launch. Now he gets to live the dream and will be assigned to AF Space Command at Cape Canaveral in Florida where he will be working on the satellite program.

Air Force Airman Nampyo Hong has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Soon Hong of Lakewood Drive, Harrisonburg, and nephew of Sunyoung Kim of Fairfax. Hong is a 2007 graduate of Spotswood High School, Penn Laird.
