Key Players: P Kacie Goddard, SR; 3B Morgan Davis, SR; 1B Rachel Daul, JR; SS Khristin Kyllo, SO; 2B Kaila Conlon, SO.

Quotable: “Make it as hard as possible.” – Head coach Wayne Martin discussing the Warhawks’ schedule.

Outlook: With the majority of last year’s 19-5 team returning, Madison softball head coach Wayne Martin is understandably optimistic about the Warhawks’ upcoming season.

“We have very high expectations,” he said.

The Warhawks return seven starters from last year’s squad, including Liberty District pitcher of the year Kacie Goddard, as well as first team all-district infielders Rachel Daul and Khristin Kyllo, not to mention third baseman Morgan Davis, who has been a lynchpin of the Warhawk offense for the past two years.

“We are a really strong team,” said Goddard. “We’re going to be competitive.”

While all of the Warhawks’ infield returns, Martin needs to fill two slots in the outfield. Currently, five different players are competing for the two spots.

“[We will] see who can fill those positions,” said Martin, who added that the competition can only be a good thing.
