The EWS takes up to 46 homeless of the streets every evening, feeds a meal, provides a warm sleeping space, and hands out a breakfast bag. The EWS is located by the Arlington Courthouse. They need four adult volunteers for 6:30–9 p.m., one or two volunteers for 9 p.m.–7 a.m., and one volunteer for 6–8 a.m. until March 31/April 1. Needed also are portable breakfast items (cereal bars, juice boxes, fruit, etc.), sample size toiletries, clean towels, new men's and women's underwear, cleaning supplies, and snacks. Free yoga class offered to both new and experienced students at Sun & Moon Yoga Studios. These classes are offered to the public through our teacher-training program (an experienced teacher will supervise). Located in Fairfax (9998 Main Street) and Arlington (3811 Lee Highway) studios. Doorways for Women and Families provides a safe, weekly, confidential domestic violence support group. The support group helps current and former victims of domestic violence share feelings, thoughts and information to make healthy life choices and end abuse. Call 703-237-0881. The Parkinson’s Disease Support Groups (Patient Discussion, Carepartners and Wilber McBay Exercise Program) meet weekday mornings at the Cherrydale Baptist Church, 3910 Lorcom Lane, Arlington. "Voices of Children” Volunteer Project. Four to six volunteers are needed to tutor Latino day laborers on basic English. Many of the day laborers who come to the Shirlington Employment & Education Center (SEEC) are looking for work, but do not speak or understand English. Volunteers are needed for The 14th Annual TAPS National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp for Young Survivors Memorial Day Weekend. Each Memorial Day, from Friday through Monday noon of that weekend (May 23-26), children of military parents from around the world whose loved one died in service are invited to this camp. The Carlin, an independent living facility for seniors located near Ballston Common, has a variety of opportunities for volunteers. Specific needs include assistance with our newsletter, particularly art work; helping to organize a Walking Club for people with limited mobility; a line dance organizer; and someone with medical experience to do blood pressure checks. Processing and Routing Library Materials. Help unpack, discharge and sort books and other materials at the Central Library, 1015 North Quincy St., so that customers at all locations can enjoy them. Volunteers must be familiar with computers and able to use computers to charge and discharge library materials. They must be able to lift 10-15 pounds, to move boxes of books and to maneuver book carts. For more information, contact 703-228-5260.

Volunteer with immigrant children. Volunteers needed to work with immigrant children while their parents learn English. Responsibilities include helping with homework, reading, playing board games, chess, basketball, volleyball and/or cards with the children. Volunteers will work at Randolph Elementary School, 1306 S. Quincy St., Arlington. Volunteers typically work two hours a week and a three-month commitment for the duration of the class is preferred. Volunteers need to fill out an application and attend an orientation, given the second Wednesday of every month. Child-Care Leader/Child-Care Assistants. The Community Outreach Program is seeking people who are interested in providing structured activities for preschool and elementary children for daytime and evening activities.
