Timothy Hamer will be the principal of Bishop Ireton High School. Hamer has served as an interim principal since last year when Father Matthew Hillyard, O.S.F.S. was reassigned as the Rector of the Cathedral Parish in Camden, N.J. This follows a nationwide search to fill the position.

Army Spec. Tamekia A. Powell has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Annie Powell of Alexandria. Powell received a bachelor's degree in 2008 from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro.

John Raney, Alexandria resident and 30-year Marine Corps veteran, won with D.C. Lottery’s Deal or No Deal Second Chance Drawing. He received a trip to Hollywood and a chance to win money on “Deal or No Deal.”

Cadet Margaret Strain, a junior at Randolph-Macon Academy and the daughter of David and Charlotte Strain of Alexandria, made the president’s list.
