Dr. Eileen Friel of Arlington has accepted the appointment by Observatory Trustee, William Lowell Putnam, to be the next Director of Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ. Dr. Friel will become the 10th Director of the Observatory. Friel will succeed Bob Millis who has served as the Lowell Observatory Director since 1989. Millis will step down as Director on June 15th of this year.
WJLA Television, based in Arlington, announces that $2 million has been injected into the national automobile industry due to the WJLA Car Partner program. More than $800,000 of that total has already been distributed to local dealerships in the Washington metropolitan area. The program which was launched on March 11, 2009 granted every company employee $2,000 toward the purchase of a new car and $1,000 for the purchase of a used car. At the Washington, D.C., operation alone, 34 employees have taken advantage of the opportunity.
