CASA Run Will Affect Traffic

City of Fairfax police advise residents and commuters that this year’s Fairfax CASA Run for the Children, sponsored by Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates, is this Saturday, April 28. The 10K run begins at 8:30 a.m., and the 3K starts at 9 a.m. Both will begin and end at the Fairfax County Courthouse.

The courses for both runners and walkers will use residential streets and major roadways in both the city and county. Police will block off the right eastbound lane of Main Street between Judicial Drive and West Street, as well as the right southbound lane of Chain Bridge Road between the entrance to the courthouse and School Street.

Route maps are at www.fairfaxrunforthechildren.com. City of Fairfax police will be monitoring vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the event. People who’ll be traveling through the city are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Drug Take-Back Day, April 28

City of Fairfax police, in cooperation with the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration, will be collecting unused and unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday, April 28, designated nationwide as Drug Take-Back Day. People with unused and unwanted prescription drugs may take them to police headquarters at 3730 Old Lee Highway from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Over-the-counter medications also will be accepted. Drop-off is anonymous, and no identification or prescription information is required. Disposal of medications has become a national concern, with reports of prescription drug chemicals found in some water sources and leaching out of landfills. The drug take-back program gives people the chance to dispose of currently unneeded medications safely.
