Planning MLK Birthday Celebration

Reston Community Center invites community members to participate in planning the 2013 annual Reston Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration. Planning for the 2013 event will start with a kick-off meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. at RCC Hunters Woods.

With a theme of "Are We Keeping the Promise?," the 2012 celebration featured community service opportunities, concerts and performances, and a keynote speech by Nnenna Freelon, a six-time GRAMMY Award nominee and "international voice of Jazz." Community members are now invited to share their ideas for the 2013 celebration and participate as members of the planning committee. The committee will meet periodically throughout the year leading up to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. The celebration is expected to include weekend concerts and performances and a commemorative march, community service projects, and other activities on Monday. All community members and ideas are welcome.
