Obituary: William V. Baldwin

William V. Baldwin, born July 3, 1922 in Hopewell, Va. died Nov. 4, 2012. Bill served in the 8th Air Corp, during WWII and won a Distinguished Flying Cross for more than 35 missions over Germany, but perhaps his bravest accomplishment in life was raising five daughters.

He was a well known businessman in Alexandria where he owned two dry cleaning businesses. He was also a long time member of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church. He and his wife raised five daughters in Waynewood.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy C. Baldwin; daughters, Mary E. Baldwin of Durham, N.C., Barbara L. Doucet (Adam) of Church Point, La., Ellen V. Dragsten (Roger) of Rainbow City, Ala., Billie F Howell (Glen) of Chesapeake, Va. and Dorothy A Engle (Scott) of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Virginia Newton of Richmond, and Myrtle Carelock of Southern Pines, N.C.

Bill had 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family received friends on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at Memorial Funeral Home, Gould Chapel, Hopewell, Va., a funeral service were held on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at the funeral home chapel. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Va.
