Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington is offering the new minimally invasive Convergent Maze Procedure for patients with advanced Afib symptoms who have not responded to standard treatments. This new procedure has been added to the hospital’s state-of-the-art Cardiac Surgery Program and Electrophysiology Service thanks to the medical expertise of Dr. John R. Garrett, chief of cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgery, and Dr. Haroon Rashid, director of electrophysiology services. The Convergent Maze Procedure combines the cardiac surgery and electrophysiology to help restore normal heart rhythm for Afib sufferers with no incisions or ports in the patient’s chest, minimal pain, and shorter hospital stays and recovery time.

MinuteClinic has opened a new walk-in medical clinic inside the CVS/pharmacy store at 1201 South Hayes St., Suite C. MinuteClinic nurse practitioners and physician assistants specialize in family health care and can diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common family illnesses. Walk-in camp, sports and college physicals for adolescents are available daily. In addition, MinuteClinic administers a series of wellness services, including screenings and monitoring for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. No appointments are required at MinuteClinic and most health insurance is accepted. For patients paying cash or credit, treatment prices are posted at each medical center and on www.minuteclinic.com. The cost for most treatment starts at $79. MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics in Arlington operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Virginia Commerce Bank announces the creation of The Virginia Commerce Bank Foundation. The donor advised fund is managed by the Arlington Community Foundation, where R.B. “Randy” Anderson, Jr., the bank’s executive vice president and chief lending officer, serves on the board of trustees as its treasurer. After many years of involvement and support with the Arlington Community Foundation, Virginia Commerce Bank welcomed the partnership as an opportunity to formalize its charitable giving program and continue its support of non-profit organizations throughout Northern Virginia and Fredericksburg.

Chapman Cubine Adams + Hussey (CCAH), a full-service direct marketing firm in Arlington serving global nonprofit organizations, has hired Mary Meredith as vice president of client services and Jamie Noblin as deputy director of list services.

Joseph R. Loring of Arlington is the 2012 recipient of Virginia Tech's College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus Award, as well the university's 2012 Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award. Loring is the founder of Loring, with offices in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Princeton, N.J. He started his private practice, Joseph R. Loring & Associates Inc., in 1956. After six years in business, Loring was selected as the engineer to design the electrical systems for the twin 110-story towers comprising the World Trade Center in New York — then the world's tallest buildings.

Bean, Kinney & Korman, P.C. of Arlington announced that Shareholder Jonathan Kinney has been recognized by Northern Virginia Magazine as a Northern Virginian of the Year for his work on affordable housing.

First Virginia Community Bank and 1st Commonwealth Bank of Virginia have entered into a definitive merger agreement pursuant to which 1st Commonwealth will be merged with and into FVCbank, with FVCbank being the surviving bank, and all of the outstanding shares of 1st Commonwealth common stock will be converted into shares of FVCbank common stock.

Kevin V. Shaner joins Virginia Commerce Bank as senior vice president, commercial banking head, responsible for developing and managing commercial relationships in the Bank's Alexandria and Arlington markets. Shaner joins the Bank with more than 17 years of experience in the financial services industry. Most recently he held the position of Senior Vice President and Community Executive for Middleburg Bank, where he played a key role in managing their small business lending initiatives. Shaner currently serves on the Board of Directors for Life Circle Alliances in Fairfax and looks forward to increasing his involvement in the Alexandria and Arlington communities. His office is located at the Bank’s Cameron Station office in Alexandria.

Bean, Kinney & Korman announced that Richard D. Kelley has joined the firm as a shareholder. Kelley deals with complex civil litigation, primarily in the areas of business and construction litigation. He has knowledge of intellectual property rights, business torts, commercial real estate contracts, trade secrets, non-compete clauses and other restrictive covenants in employment, partnership and joint venture agreements. He has detailed experience with electronic data discovery. Prior to joining Bean Kinney, Mr. Kelley was a senior associate at Reed Smith LLP. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Alexandria Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Fairfax Bar Association and the George Mason American Inn of Court.

Joseph P. Corish of Bean, Kinney & Korman in Arlington has been recognized as a “Leader in the Law” honoree by Virginia Lawyers Weekly. Each year, Virginia Lawyers Weekly presents this award to those in the legal field who are changing and advancing the law, improving the justice system, serving the community and setting the standard for other lawyers. Corish, along with the other honorees, will be celebrated at a reception on Oct. 25 at the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond. Virginia Commerce Bank announces the recent appointment of Ladonna L. “Donna” Coley as Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager, of the Clarendon Branch. New mixed-use building Tellus in Arlington is seeking LEED Gold Certification. Power Design, Inc. has been named electrical contractor on Tellus. Power Design partnered with the developers Erkiletian, Jefferson Apartment Group, WDG Architecture and Mechanical Design Group to provide the electrical systems design on the project and SE Foster will be spearheading the construction. The 254-unit luxury residential tower will feature Energy Star’s advanced lighting package, renewable energy sources, energy-efficient materials, sustainable landscaping and advanced recycling systems.

Engineering Services Network Inc., an engineering and technology solutions company based in Arlington, that provides services to the Department of Defense and other federal agencies, announced that it rose on the Inc. 5000 list of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies after revenues soared, ranking No. 2556.

TWD & Associates, Inc., a communication and collaboration solutions provider for the public sector, announced that Dave Arundel will oversee the company’s new Governmentwide Acquisition Contract Center as its GWAC Manager. Arundel will manage TWD’s GWAC and Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract vehicles, as well as develop and implement GWAC Center procedures and processes.
