Oakton Rules the Pool

Oakton High School’s Varsity Swim and Drive teams continued their undefeated season with a win over Herndon High School Friday night, Jan. 11. The girls won with a score of 197 points over Herndon’s 112. The boys won 194 to 121.

The Cougars started off the meet by recognizing their graduating seniors. Following the senior recognition, Bennett Fagan, a diver for the boy’s team, took first place for Oakton with a score of 207.75 points. The meet continued with incredible swims across the board from Oakton. Both the boys’ and girls’ 200 yard Medley Relay took first place. For the girls, Janet Hu, Melissa Shebat, Julia Capobianco, and Gillian Crews swam, and for the boys, John Shebat, Michael Pettinichi, Denny Nguyen, and Michael Ambrose swam. Both 200 yard Freestyle relays and 400 yard Freestyle relays won as well. The girls’ 200 yard Freestyle relay team consisted of Laura Branton, Megan Byrnes, Elise Bourdelais, and Janet Hu. The boys’ 200 yard Freestyle relay team was made of Gregory DeRosa, JT Byrne, Chris Crapco, and Philip Hu. Laura Branton, Elise Bourdelais, Kendall Lawhorn, and Janet Hu took first in the 400 yard Freestyle relay. For the boys’ 400 yard Freestyle relay, Nathan Pawlowicz, Michael Ambrose, Mason Hawkins, and Philip Hu won.Megan Byrnes placed first in the 200 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Freestyle. Janet Hu took first in the 100 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard Backstroke. In the 200 yard Individual Medley, Laura Branton took first. Gillian Crews took first place for Oakton in the 50 yard Freestyle. Kendall Lawhorn placed first in the 500 yard Freestyle. Philip Hu finished first in the 500 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Backstroke. Denny Nguyen took first for Oakton in the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 100 yard Breaststroke. In the 50 yard Freestyle, Gregory DeRosa placed first. Gray Liddell placed first in the 100 yard Butterfly. Michael Ambrose won the 100 yard Freestyle event.
