Westfield High School junior Nick O'Connell has been accepted at Stanford University's Summer College, where he will be studying computer programming and electrical engineering this summer.

Stanford's Summer College is an eight-week college experience where program participants build a schedule comprised of college-level courses, and credit earned is documented on a Stanford University transcript. Stanford credit may be transferable to other educational institutions depending on the transfer policies of the specific college or university.

O'Connell, who plans to double major in computer science and electrical engineering in college, is also a varsity member of Westfield's track and field and cross country teams. He will attend Stanford between June 18 and Aug. 18. When he returns he will begin practice for the 2013 fall cross country season. He also launched and coordinates an annual outreach on behalf of So Others Might Eat, through which he collects and donates clothing and essentials for homeless families in neighboring Washington, D.C.
