Letter: Vote Yes on Referendum

To the Editor:

As a former Fairfax County teacher, I know that many families move to our area in part for the excellent reputation of our school system. It attracts families and businesses alike because an excellent school system is an investment in the economy and the community. I encourage all county residents to vote “Yes” on the School Bond Referendum on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to continue Fairfax County’s trend of excellence in education.

In order to build our reputation and keep Fairfax County as a destination for the best and brightest, we need to make a much-needed investment in our school infrastructure. Students benefit from modern facilities with safe, designated learning spaces. The bond will provide tax-free, low-interest funding for a number of renovation projects across the county and millions of dollars for much needed infrastructure projects and school security enhancements. With continued growth and high enrollment expected over the next five years, now is the time to make improvements to get our kids out of temporary “trailers” and into classrooms that are more conducive to learning.

As a result of the economic downturn, construction costs and interest rates are at an all-time low. Now is the best time to take advantage of these low costs and make an investment that will pay dividends for the future of our children and the future of Fairfax County.

Vote “yes” for the School Bond on Nov. 5th!
