The City of Fairfax held another Rock the Block! on Friday, Aug. 22. This is the second installment of the inaugural event, which started this year on July 25. The free outdoor concert series took place on University Drive between North and Main streets.

The Breakfast Club, a 1980s tribute band from Georgia, played popular songs from the decade starting with Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose” and ending with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”

Emcee Jarrod Wronski called out to the crowd’s children of the 80s and said that they were about to be entertained with the best music of all time. To their kids, however, Wronski warned them that they would be hearing oldies tonight.

Events Coordinator for the city of Fairfax Mitzi Taylor said that Rock the Block! is a way of bringing people into the downtown area. “People come down here to eat and enjoy,” she said. It also brings free entertainment to the public.

Refreshments were available for purchase from Red Hot & Blue’s food truck and The Old Firestation #3, which set up tables on the street.

At the parking lot adjacent to The Old Firestation #3, lawn games were set up for children to play, while attending the concert.

At the end of the performance, prizes were awarded to best photograph and tweet about the event, which were tagged #TGIFairfax.

Clayton Smith won the best quote with “How can you not have fun at Rock the Block!” tweeted by his mother.

The event concluded with the crowd singing “Happy Birthday” to Sadie Drummond, who turned 13 that night.

The next Rock the Block! in downtown Fairfax will be on Sept. 26, featuring Leggz.
