Letter: A Woman I Will Never Forget In My Life

To the Editor:

It began to snow in the morning. I arrived by bus at Reston Hospital for an X-ray. They told me the X-ray location was a half mile away. When I went back to the bus stop I found that all the buses were canceled because of the heavy snow. At last, I decided to walk there because I didn't think it was far. As I walked along the road it snowed more heavily. It occurred to me that my trek not only was difficult but dangerous. I didn't know the name of the road on which I was walking because the road sign wasn't visible. And I wasn't sure I was going in the right direction because the snow and clouds made it impossible to determine where the sun was in the sky. I wasn't even sure which was the sidewalk and which was the road because of all the snow.

It snowed heavily and continuously; I thought to myself that if I fall down and injure myself so that I can't get up, I would become covered by the thick snow and nobody would discover me. What a terrible situation I was in! I was like a small boat adrift on a turbulent ocean, in danger of sinking to the bottom. I thought, what shall I do? As I trudged forward, cars would go by. Suddenly a car stopped near me, and a woman came out and asked where I wanted to go. She said without hesitation, "Come on! I'll bring you there!"

When we arrived, there was not a big building, but many one-story office structures. She drove the car patiently among the offices to find the correct one. At last, she found it. When I left her I asked her to give me her name and address, as I planned to write her a thank-you letter. But she only told me her name. I cannot help but express my deep gratitude. What a kind and warmhearted woman she was!

As she drove away I thought, what shall I do afterwards? I first would like to share this memorable incident with everyone. Second, I will do my best to help people who need help, even those I don't know.
