Alexandria: Interning at Horatio Alger Association

— High Point University rising junior Blake Pohanka is working with the Horatio Alger Association at her summer internship in her hometown of Alexandria.

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is a nonprofit organization that honors the achievements of outstanding Americans who have succeeded in spite of adversity and emphasize the importance of higher education. Dr. Nido Qubein, HPU President, was honored with the Horatio Alger Award in 2006.

The organization also grants scholarships and describes itself as the largest provider of need-based scholarships in the United States.

Pohanka’s duties at the organization include administration of scholarships, writing and editing of publications and social media content, and maintaining and updating student files.
