Column: Finding Your Passion

And leaving your legacy.

I think everyone strives to find their passion — whether in their professional work life or an outside interest. When we retire and work has been one of the major focuses of our life finding what interests us can take some time. It is also the time when we might think about leaving a legacy that fits our passion and lifestyle. Do you like working with youth? Are you crazy about animals? Is protecting the environment important to you? Are you a veteran and would like to give back to those serving our nation today?

If you want to explore what your passion is and think about what your legacy could be then join ACT for Alexandria and Senior Services of Alexandria on Wednesday, Nov. 18 to hear from local nonprofits from a variety of different areas on what they do and how you can make a difference. There will be representatives who work with animals, arts, environment, health, seniors, veterans and youth. It’s going to be an interactive session where participants can move around to hear from each organization about their important work. The event kicks off with a special guest speaker David Speck of Speck-Caudron Investment Group talking about finding your passion and the different ways to leave a legacy.

The Nov. 18 event takes place at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Road in Alexandria. The program runs from 10 a.m. – noon with registration at 9:30 a.m. It is free and open to the public with light refreshments provided. You can register online at seniorservicesalex.org or call 703-836-4414, ext. 110.

We hope you can join us and have some fun exploring your passions.
