Fairfax Academy to Host 10th Annual MCT Fest

This year marks the 10th anniversary of MCT Fest at Fairfax Academy for Communication and the Arts, a showcase of original work by academy students. The event is part of the City of Fairfax’s Spotlight on the Arts and will run from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Sherwood Center in Fairfax.

MCT Fest is coordinated by students from the academy’s Music and Computer Technology (MCT) level 1 and 2 classes, which include students from numerous schools within FCPS. Original music written by MCT students will be featured alongside student bands, singers and solo instrumental performances. Although these classes consist of juniors and seniors, underclassmen participate if they happen to be in the same performance ensemble as an MCT2 student. Students will perform classic rock, jazz, rap, instrumentals, unaccompanied vocals, and several other genres.

This year, part of the $15 ticket proceeds will be donated to Our Daily Bread, a local charitable organization that provides assistance to residents of Fairfax County who are in need.

For more information, or to donate, contact MCT instructor Christopher Johnston at 703-219-2298 or career experience specialist Erin Bloom at 703-219-2385. Citizens may also mail or drop off donations (in the form of a check) to Johnston at Fairfax Academy (attn: Christopher Johnston/MCT Fest), 3501 Rebel Run, Fairfax, VA 22030.
