Notable incidents from the Vienna Police Reports from Jan. 15-21.

Incidents

Fraud - 800 Block Ninovan Road, SE. Between September 30, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. and Jan. 15 at 9:32 a.m. A resident was alerted by Paypal Credit informing her that an account had been opened in her name without her knowledge.

Fraud - 1000 Block Tapawingo Road, SW. Between Dec. 31, 2015 at 1:54 p.m. and Jan. 20, 2016 at 1:54 p.m. A resident reported that in 2015 she was alerted by Lifelock that someone had attempted to open a Walmart credit card using her personal information. She recently received information from her bank that may be useful in identifying the person who was involved. This case is being investigated.

Suspicious Event - Desale Street at James Street, SW. Jan. 12, 4:15 p.m. A resident reported his daughter had been dropped off at a bus stop and was approached by a Mexican male, with dark hair and between 20–40 years of age. She stated the man drove up to her in a black sedan and motioned for her to get in. When the girl refused he left the area. The incident happened two days prior to the resident reporting this to the police. School officials have been made aware of this incident.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation - 100 Block Courthouse Road, SW. Jan. 14, 11:05 p.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop. Upon his approach to the vehicle he detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. After his interaction with the driver he located a measurable amount of marijuana. The officer issued summonses to the driver, a 22-year-old man from Formby Street in Bristow, Va. for Possession of Marijuana, Speeding and Driving on a Suspended License. He was released after signing the summonses.

Arrest – Concealed Weapon - 100 Block Courthouse Road, SW. Jan. 15, 12:46 a.m. As a result of the driver from the case above, having a suspended driver’s license he was not permitted to drive from the scene. Therefore he telephoned a friend to request a ride home. The friend arrived and after his interaction with the officer a concealed handgun was located in the vehicle. The driver did not possess a permit to carry the weapon. The officer transported the 24-year-old man from Cordgrass Circle in Stone Ridge, Va. to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and held on a $1,000.00 bond.

Police Service - 400 Block Lawyers Road, NW. Jan. 15, 11:25 a.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in an unused Insulin needle found in the rear of her home. The needle will held at the police station until it can be destroyed.

Narcotics Violation - Lewis Street at Maple Avenue, NW. Jan. 15, 12:44 p.m. The officer was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic offenses. As a result of those offenses he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the juvenile driver he located cigarettes, a measurable amount of marijuana, as well as Schedule II and IV narcotics. The juvenile was transported to the Vienna Police Station where her mother responded and took her home. This case is being investigated.

Suspicious Event - 500 Block Maple Avenue, West. Jan. 15, 2:53 p.m. A citizen reported she was returning to her vehicle when she observed a black male getting into her vehicle. When she confronted the man he stated it was an accident. He left the area prior to the arrival of the police officer.

Petit Larceny - Rite Aid, 215 Maple Ave., West. Jan. 15, 5:08 p.m. An employee reported an individual entered the store and after taking items from the shelf he attempted to return them for cash using an altered store receipt. When the individual was denied the exchange he absconded with the items. The individual was described as a black male, clean shaven, 35–40 years old, approximately 5’9”, and wearing a black North Face jacket. This case is being investigated.

Runaway Juvenile - Hillcrest Drive, SW. Between Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 18 at 12:34 p.m. A resident reported her son had run away from home. She stated he went outside with a friend to wait for another friend to arrive and had not seen or heard from him since. This case is being investigated.

Arrest – Destruction of Property/Drunk in Public - 100 Block Patrick St., SE. Jan. 15, 8:18 p.m. A resident reported seeing an individual staggering through the parking lot and stopping at several vehicles to look inside. The resident stated the individual walked to his vehicle and after looking inside he kicked it several times and broke the passenger side mirror. The individual left the area prior to the arrival of the police. The officer responded to the area a short time later and located the individual. The resident, who reported the initial incident, identified him as the one who damaged his vehicle. The officer transported the 39-year-old man, with no fixed address, to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk in Public and Destruction of Property. He was held on a $500.00 bond.

Animal Case - 1000 Block Mountfort Court, SW. Jan. 15, 11:43 p.m. A resident reported an injured cat had been found lying in the roadway. An officer responded and transported the cat to an area Veterinary Hospital where it was determined the cat could not be saved.

Police Service - 100 Block James Drive, SW. Jan. 16, 12:59 p.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in three BB guns for destruction.

Burglary - 100 Block Casmar Street, SE. Between Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. and Jan. 18 at 7 a.m. An employee reported a residence, under construction, had been entered and several construction tools had been taken. This case is being investigated.

Animal Case - Owaissa Road at Glyndon Street, SE. Jan. 16, 8:48 p.m. A resident reported a dog had been walking around the neighborhood unaccompanied. The resident was able to corral the dog in their backyard however the dog was able to make her escape by jumping the fence. An officer responded to the area and after locating the dog he was able to persuade her to get in the back seat of his cruiser. He transported the dog to the Hope Center in an effort to obtain his owner’s information but they were unsuccessful. She was then transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter where she will be held until her owner is identified.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation - 1000 Block Maple Ave., East. Jan. 17, 1:51 a.m. An officer was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver and passenger he detected the odor of marijuana radiating from the vehicle. After further interaction he located a measurable amount of marijuana. The officer issued summonses to the driver, an 18-year-old man from Patrick Henry Drive in Falls Church, Virginia and the passenger, a 27 year old man from Moncure Avenue in Falls Church, Va. for Possession of Marijuana. Both men were released after signing their summonses.

Burglary - 500 Block Tapawingo Road, SW. Jan. 17, 11:45 a.m. The residents of a home returned to find a door had been damaged and many items had been strewn about the inside of the house. The officer responded and with the assistance of the homeowners determined several items had been taken. The area was canvassed with the assistance of a Fairfax County Police Department K-9 officer and his dog without success.

Arrest – Petit Larceny - Vienna Drug Center, 150 Maple Ave., West. Jan. 17, 7:30 p.m. An employee reported an individual entered the store and attempted to purchase cleaning wipes and ear wax remover. She stated after the customer’s credit card was declined he left the store. The employee then discovered the cleaning wipes and ear wax remover were missing. The employee stated the individual is a regular customer and provided his information to the officer. The officer responded to the individual’s address and after speaking with him issued the 44-year-old man from Marcliff Court in Vienna with a summons for Petit Larceny.

Suspicious Event - 100 Block Patrick Street, SE. Jan. 18, 4 a.m. A resident reported her ex-boyfriend had repeatedly called and texted her in an effort to get her to meet with him. The resident was worried he may try to hurt her. She stated he assaulted her several weeks ago in another jurisdiction. The officer informed her to file a report with the jurisdiction where the assault took place.

Open Door - 1100 Block Moorefield Hill Court, SW. Jan. 18, 1:33 p.m. An alarm company reported a residential alarm had been activated. An officer responded and located a door that had been locked but was ajar. He along with another officer searched the residence and found nothing appeared out of place. The door was secured prior to leaving.

Suspicious Event - 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE. Jan. 18, 3:04 p.m. A resident requested an officer respond to check on another family in the apartment complex. She stated she received a text message from a family member in the apartment, informing her that her mother and father were involved in a heated argument. An officer responded and spoke with all the parties involved. They agreed there had been a heated argument; however, it had not turned physical.

Suspicious Event - 400 Block Colin Lane, NW. Jan. 18, 8:32 p.m. A homeowner and his wife reported their grandson had been allowing his friends to stay in the basement without their consent. The officer informed the resident to contact the police when the unwanted individual/individuals return. The resident was also informed to change the locks on the door to the basement.

Grand Larceny - Giant Food, 359 Maple Ave., East. Jan. 21 between 2 p.m. and 2:32 p.m. A shopper reported she had been perusing the produce section and left her handbag unattended in her shopping cart. When she returned to her shopping cart she discovered her wallet had been taken. She was unable to provide a description of who may have taken the wallet. The store was extremely busy due to the impending snow storm. This case is being investigated.

Domestic Dispute - Stephen Circle, SW. Jan. 21, 2:54 p.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to report her boyfriend had been becoming increasingly irate towards her. She stated he has been attacking her emotionally and psychologically. The officer was informed by the resident the attacks had never been physical.

Medical Case - 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE. Jan. 21, 4:54 p.m. A resident reported his girlfriend had taken an undetermined number of pills. Fairfax County Rescue personnel responded and transported her to an area hospital for treatment.

Crashes

Maple Avenue at Branch Road, SE. Jan. 14, 5:38 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, SE in adjacent lanes. The driver of the vehicle in the middle lane made an unsafe lane change and collided with the vehicle in the left turn lane.

200 Block Cedar Lane, SE. Jan. 14, 9:11 p.m. The operator of a Moped was taking a “Test Drive”, while holding a carryout bag in one hand and a juice bottle in the other. The operator lost control of the Moped and fell to the ground striking his face on the pavement. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Maple Avenue near Center Street, South. Jan. 15, 7:48 a.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling southbound on Center Street, South toward Maple Avenue. The driver of the second vehicle was exiting a parking lot and collided with the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Highway.

Maple Avenue at Lawyers Road, NW. Jan. 17, 12:33 a.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, NW in the same lane of travel. Both drivers stopped for the red traffic signal at Lawyers Road, NW. The driver of the second vehicle accelerated when the traffic signal turned green and rear-ended the first vehicle.

Maple Avenue near Glyndon Street, East. Jan. 19, 12:57 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was stopped in the right travel lane waiting for the traffic signal to change to green. The driver of the second vehicle attempted to pass the stopped vehicle and a collision occurred.

Maple Avenue near Lawyers Road, NW. Jan. 19, 1:40 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, West in the same lane of travel and stopped due to heavy traffic. The driver of the second vehicle lifted her foot off the brake and rear-ended the first vehicle.

200 Block Cedar Lane, SE. Jan. 20, 3 a.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle returned to discover damage to the right front door and side mirror. The driver of the striking vehicle did not stop to exchange information.

Desale Street at Kingsley Road, SW. Jan. 20, 3:22 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Kinsley Road, SW in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped for the Stop Sign at Desale Street, SW and was rear ended by the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
