At a recent City Council meeting, the month of March was proclaimed as “March for Meals” to bring awareness around the topic of senior isolation and hunger. Councilwoman Del Pepper read the proclamation signed by Mayor Allison Silberberg that establishes the March for Meals Campaign and recognizes the importance of the Older American Act Nutrition Programs.

This month-long, nationwide celebration includes reaching out to members of the community to build support that will enable them to deliver nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to seniors all year long. The Alexandria Meals on Wheels program is administered by Senior Services of Alexandria and the city’s Division on Aging and Adult Services. The week of March 21 is designated as “Champions Week” where city officials and employees and local business and organizations will deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in the City of Alexandria.
