— A chimney fire last weekend displaced four Herndon residents from their home on the 13400 block of Lake Shore Drive in Herndon last weekend.

There were no injuries reported, but damages to the home were estimated to total $46,875.

On Sunday, Nov. 6, at approximately 5:26 p.m., Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department firefighters arrived and saw fire from the rear of the two-story, single family home. They were able to bring the fire under control after approximately 12 minutes.

But the damage had been done. Red Cross assistance was offered to the home’s occupants, but they declined the help.

An investigation revealed that the fire originated in the chimney that was in use and was caused by radiant heat that ignited combustible materials from its fire box.
