Pedestrian Dies in Collision in Mount Vernon

Officers responded to the report of a pedestrian that was struck near the intersection of Richmond Highway and Belfield Road on Saturday, Nov. 12, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Officers located the scene and summoned detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit.

The initial investigation determined that a 69-year-old male pedestrian was attempting to cross Richmond Highway, not within a crosswalk, when he was struck by a 2015 Hyundai Sonata traveling northbound. The 35-year-old, female driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was subsequently transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian, Eugene Michael Kotlarchuk, of Forest Hills, N.Y., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in this crash. The investigation is ongoing.
