The Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna and the Town of Vienna’s Department of Parks and Recreation co-sponsor a Valentine’s Dance for mature adults. Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Vienna welcomes the pre-registered guests Feb. 3, 3 to 5 p.m. in DeSales Hall.

Yes, it’s cold ... and there remains the possibility of snowfall for another six weeks (remember last March?). But, January has – so far – been relatively mild and it’s not unusual to see bike riders and strollers around the Vienna area. If you are more of an aficionado for indoor activities, the Vienna-Oakton area has options for Connection readers.

Patrick Henry Library and Oakton Library offer activities for children and events for adults — and they are free. Over at Jammin’ Java on Maple Avenue are kids’ shows on Thursday and Friday mornings, with the occasional Saturday morning scheduled. Culinaria Cooking School features cooking classes, many with an international bent, most days of the week. Look for “Mardi Gras” celebrations at neighborhood restaurants, as well as wine-dinners. Reston Town Center and Tysons shopping centers host outdoor ice skating while Skatequest in Reston offers an indoor rink.
