At the Relay for Life on June 17 in Great Falls, cancer survivor Heidi Jenkins, age 23, rallied the 350 participants with her story of survival, leading to a successful event raising money for the American Cancer Society. Jenkins, a resident of the Mount Vernon area, was executive director for the 2015 and 2016 Relay For Life events at James Madison University, where she graduated last year with a degree in communication studies. Her father, a retired Fairfax County firefighter, and mother, a nurse in the community for over 30 years, were both at the relay cheering her on. Photo contributed
