Army Private Simchah R. Wittenburg has graduated from basic combat training at Fort jackson, columbia, S.C. Whittenburg is the son of MIke Bedsole of Annandale, VA and a 2001 graduate of Woodson High school in Fairfax.

Civilians Diane MacGibbon and Alexander Ginman of Fairfax Station; Matthew Brown, Ian Orzalli and John Ahad of Burke; David Lindholm, John Baxter, David Flaherty, Kyle McKinney, Daniel Henebery, and Aimee Feliz of Fairfax; and Jennifer Powers, Ryan Loviner, Gregory Moynihan and Jonathan Butterfield of Springfield recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy’s week-long summer seminar program in Annapolis, MD. During the program they were introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities.

U.S. Navy Lt. Jg. Michael A. Gorski, son of retired Navy Captain Tom Gorski and his wife, Patrice Gorski, graduated from Office Candidate School in Florida on Arpil 9, 1999. He attended flight school where he trained to fly helicopters. He is presently stationed in San Diego, California and is a pilot flying HC-46 Helicopters. He recently returned from a six-week training cruise in the Pacific Ocean aboard the U.S.S Tarawa. While on cruise, he made two stops in the Hawaiian Islands. He plans to make a career of the Navy. Before joining the Navy, Michael graduated from Lake Braddock high School in Burke and then from the University of Toledo, in Ohio, with a degree in Physics and Engineering.

Charles D. Horn has entered basic cadet training at The U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Col. Horn is the son of Vicki and Charles Horn of Springfield,. He is a 2002 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Springfield.

Sean A. France has entered basic cadet training at The U.S. Air Force Academy. France is the son of Martin France of Burke. He is a 2002 graduate of Lake Braddock Secondary School, Burke.

Jill A. Dehnert has entered basic cadet training at The U.S. Air Force Academy. Dehnert is the daughter of Robert Dehnert of Springfield.

Katherine A. Bultemeier has entered basic cadet training at The U.S. Air Force Academy. Bultemeier is the daughter of Mark and Laura Bultemeier of Fairfax. She is a 2002 graduate of W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax.

Julia M. Ralston has entered basic cadet training at The U.S. Air Force Academy. She is the daughter of Jeffrey Ralston of Annandale. Ralstion is a 2001 graduate of Paul VI High School, in Fairfax.

Jonathan E. Darden has graduated from the Army ROTC National Advanced Leadership Camp at the Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. Darden is the son of William E. and Marily J. Darden of Springfield. He is a 1999 graduate of Paul VI High School, in Fairfax.

Aaron M. Fegley has graduated from the Army ROTC National Advanced Leadership Camp at the Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. Fegley is the son of Gil R. and Marion J. Fegley of Burke. He is a 1999 graduate of Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax.

Corey L. Perrine has graduated from the Army ROTC National Advanced Leadership Camp at the Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. Perrine is the son of Robert M. Perrine and La M. Perrine of Springfield. He graduated in 1997 from Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield.

SeukHwan Son, Kimberly G. White and Catherine C. Williams have been commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with bachelor’s degrees from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. The new officers will be branched to a specific corps in the Army to serve on active duty or in the national guard or reserve. The lieutenants also will attend an officer basic course which relates to his or her particular military occupational specialty/job. Son is the son of YangJo and TaeJa Son of Fairfax. He is a 1993 graduate of Fairfax High School. White is the daughter of Willington E. and Shirley A. K. White of Springfield. She is a 1998 graduate of Jefferson High School Science and Technology. Williams is the daughter of Peyton R. and Bobbie B. Williams of Burke. She is a 1998 graduate of Lake Braddock High School in Burke.

Civilian Derek K. McVay, son of Patricia A. and Craig M. McVay of Springfield, recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy’s week-long summer program in Annapolis, Md. During the program, McVay was introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities. The summer seminar program was designed by the U.S. Naval Academy’s office of admissions to give students a taste of the challenges and benefits of a Naval Academy education. McVay is currently attending Robert E. Lee High School.
