The Fairfax Junior Chamber of Commerce, a nonprofit group which organizes charitable activities across Northern Virginia, will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Mama's Italian Restaurant, 9715 Lee Highway, Fairfax. Katharine Dill of Centreville recently became a consultant for Tastefully Simple Inc., a national direct sales company based in Alexandria, MN. As a consultant, Dill conducts in-home presentations of upscale, convenience driven gourmet foods. A new 7-Eleven store opened at 43251 John Mosby Highway (Route 50) across the Loudoun County line. A grand opening celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will include an appearance by WARW radio, a moon bounce and a basketball pop-a-shot game. As part of the ceremony, 7-Eleven will present a check for $711 to the Loudoun County branch of the Salvation Army.

Gov. Mark R. Warner appointed Bonnie L. McQuaid of Centreville to the Joint Subcommittee to Study the Regulatory Responsibilities, Policies and Activities of the State Corporation Commission. She is the clinical manager, pulmonary diagnostics at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

"I am pleased to appoint these hardworking citizens who are willing to dedicate their efforts to move Virginia forward," said Gov. Warner.

The Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce will present "The State of the Northern Virginia Workforce," a timely look at the region's most valuable economic asset, its skilled workforce on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. This forum will feature state and regional experts on education, economic and workforce development offering their assessment of the status of Northern Virginia's economy and job market. To be held at the Richard Ernst Community Cultural Center, Northern Virginia Community College, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale. Cost is $45/Chamber members and $68/Non-Members.

Carl P. Cecil of Chantilly left Electronic Data Systems to join the Century 21 New Millennium office in Centreville. Carl has been licensed to sell real estate in Virginia since 2001.

Barry Huitema, branch officer/branch manager of Virginia Commerce Bank, Chantilly, was among the 57 Virginia bankers who graduated Aug. 9 from the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The Bank Management Course broadened the graduates' knowledge in all respects of banking, economics, and related subjects. Huitema graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and has been in banking for eight years. He has managed the Virginia Commerce Bank office in Chantilly since it opened in November 2000. The office is located at 13881 G Metrotech Drive, in the Sully Place Shopping Center.
