Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Juan Saldana, son of Martha
Saldana of Springfield, recently landed on the shore of Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C. Since arrival in country, Marines and sailors from Saldana's unit have engaged enemy forces in Al Kut, conducted several successful convoy operations, including one containing 93 vehicles, and began a rebuilding process in the village of Hasham. Saldana is a 2000 graduate of Annandale High School and joined the Marine Corps in June 2000.
Justin C. Botts has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Reserve after having graduated from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala. Botts is a pilot assigned to the 327th Airlift Squadron at Willow Grove Air Reserve Station, Penn. He is the son of Mason S. Botts and Pamela J. Botts, both of Springfield. His wife, Abby, is the daughter of John M. and Gayle Greene of Hundsford Lane, Springfield. The lieutenant graduated in 1991 from Lake Braddock Secondary School and received a bachelor's degree in 1999 from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
