Virginia Pauline "Polly" Thornberry, 76, died on Nov. 12. Thornberry grew up on Folly Lick Farm in Herndon and was a guidance secretary for Herndon Intermediate School for 23 years. After retirement, she and her husband Stanley moved to Seminole, Fla. After her husband's death, Thornberry moved to Maryland to be closer to her family.
Thornberry is survived by daughters Wendy Stonerock of New Jersey, Jody Applegate of Virginia and Julie Weikle of Maryland. She is also survived by two sisters and brothers, Viola Gates, Mary Lee Mongelli, John Young and Freeland Young of Fairfax, Va. She was the grandmother of six and a great-grandmother of three.
