Virginia "Ginny" Kelly has been appointed vice president of volunteers for First Night Alexandria to coordinate and oversee the organization's approximately 200 volunteers working at the nearly three dozen planned venues throughout the city for the 2004 annual New Year's Eve event.

Kelly grew up in the Washington, D.C., area and resides in Alexandria. Since 1988 she has been active in the Washington, D.C., St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee where she has served as vice chairman since 2000. She is on the board of the Police Emerald Society and was named "Woman of the Year" in 2002 by the society. She is currently employed with a Homeland Security contractor in Arlington.

Alexandria native Charles C. Mottley, together with wife Linda J. Mottley, has pledged $11 million to Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden-Sydney, Va., $10 million of the donation will go towards the construction of a new library, while the rest will go to the college's endowment. Mottley, a 1956 graduate of Hampden-Sydney, is the president and C.E.O. of mining firm El Capitan Precious Metals. He now lives in Scottsdale, Ariz.
