Police Officer Commits Suicide

The Alexandria Police Department is mourning the death of one of their own officers.

At around 1 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, an Alexandria police officer shot and killed himself in his cruiser, according to police. He was off duty at the time.

Police responded to the 4800 block of W. Braddock Road and found an officer inside his cruiser suffering from a gunshot wound. The officer, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, is a 34-year-old male who served six years with the Alexandria Police Department and six years previously with the Alexandria Sheriff’s Department. The officer was assigned to the Community Support Section.
