Colonial Days at Herndon Elementary

Herndon Elementary School's fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students celebrated the completion of their Colonial America studies with a rousing production of the musical "Let George Do It," Jan. 27.

A cross-curriculum effort reflecting lessons on Colonial America and the American Revolution, the students used the musical to teach about George Washington and how his ideals are applicable to everyday life.

The winter musical was directed by Becki Jones and Cara Chaapel; physical education teachers Eric Johnson and Susan Jackson and guidance counselor Tiffany Bryant were instrumental in coordinating the choreography of the musical. The cast included colonial people, cheerleaders, Boston Tea Party revelers, the Statue of Liberty and George Washington.
