Army Reserve Pvt. Libby A. Paniagua has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Paniagua's mother is Libby Delgado of Wythe St., Alexandria, Va. The private is a 2004 graduate of T.C. Williams High School, Alexandria.

Army Pfc. Frank A. Frimpong has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. Frimpong's mother is Felicia Frimpong of Northrop Road, Alexandria. The private graduated in 2001 from West Potomac High School, Alexandria, and received an associate degree in 2003 from Gibbs College, Vienna, Va.

Army Pfc. Timothy A. Smith has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Smith is the son of Joyce Butler of Huntington, Alexandria, Va., and grandson of Charlotte Montgery of Congress St., Washington, D.C.

Army Pvt. Million S. Goitom has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Solomon S. Goitom of Patience Court, Alexandria, Va.

Noah B. Gallahan has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year. Gallahan, a 2004 graduate of Nelson County High School, Bardstown, Ky., has reported to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., for active duty. He is the son of Pamela Gallahan of Alexandria, and Douglas W. Gallahan of Evergreen Court, Bardstown.

J. Michael "Mick" Bednarek, Colonel, United States Army was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General on Jan. 4, 2005 in a ceremony at the U.S. Joint Forces Command Joint Warfighting Center, Suffolk, Va. General Bednarek, a 1971 graduate of Bishop Ireton High School and 1975 distinguished military graduate of Old Dominion University is currently Commander, Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center at Ft. Polk, La. His parents, Colonel (Ret) & Mrs. Frank Bednarek(deceased) were long time residents of Alexandria. In March, General Bednarek will assume his new assignment as Assistant Deputy Commander, 25th Infantry Division Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Gen. Bednarek and his wife, Holly, have four children, Missy 23, Chris 21, Stephanie 17 and Joanna 15.

Army Pvt. Asia M. Lewis has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Lewis' mother is Lelethia Abdus-Shakur Lewis of E. Oxford Ave., Alexandria.

The private is a 2004 graduate of the Girls Woods Program, Axton, Va.

Marine Corps Pvt. Mohammad M. Nekoueian, son of Tahereh Mirzajan and Ali Nekoueian of Alexandria, and Marine Corps Pvt. Christopher S. Hellmuth, a 2004 graduate of Bishop Ireton High School, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Nekoueian is a 2004 graduate of West Potomac High School. Hellmuth is a 2004 graduate of Bishop Ireton High School.

Army Pfc. Stacy-Ann N. Smith has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Carol E. and stepdaughter of Michael Bell of Pleasure Cove Court, Alexandria.

Air Force Airman Tamla J. Wakefield has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Janice King of N. Armistead St., Alexandria, and Marlowe Mings of Brooklyn, N.Y. Wakefield is a 2003 graduate of T.C. Williams High School.

Army Pvt. Jason L. Felton has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Felton is a 2002 graduate of T.C. Williams High School.

Army Pvt. William C. Babineau has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Babineau is the son of William Babineau of Bing Court, Alexandria, and nephew of Valari Logan of Charlotte, N.C. The soldier is a 2003 graduate of Crossroads Charter High School, Charlotte.

Air Force Airman Dominique J. Alexander has arrived for duty at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany.

Alexander, a medical service apprentice, is assigned to the 435th Medical Squadron. She is the daughter of Letitia Alexander of Princess St., Alexandria. In 2003, the airman graduated from T.C. Williams High School.

Army 2nd Lt. Shayla-Nichelle S. Henderson has returned to Wuerzburg, Germany, after a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldier is regularly assigned to the 67th Combat Support Hospital in Wuerzburg. Henderson is the daughter of Catherine Henderson of Derby Court, Alexandria.

Air Force Airman Christopher M. Knight has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Michael Knight of Leverette Court, Alexandria.

Air Force Airman Justin D. Moore has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Moore is the son of Georgine Matthews of St. Louis, Mo., and nephew of Ronald Hawkins of Martinique Lane, Alexandria.

Army Pvt. Frankie A. Fernandez has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Francisco Fernandez of New York, N.Y., and nephew of Jacqueline Negron of Southland Avenue, Alexandria.

Army 2nd Lt. Matthew C. Waite has graduated from the infantry officer basic course at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

The lieutenant graduated in 1999 from Bishop Ireton High School, Alexandria.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Isaac I. Huff, a 2002 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Alexandria, and more that 300 of his fellow sailors recently took part in commissioning the Navy's newest guided-missile destroyer, USS Nitze, during a ceremony held at the ship's homeport of Naval Station Norfolk. Huff joined the Navy in January 2003.
