Kauffman Welcomes Newcomers

Welcome to Lee District. You've chosen one of the friendliest and well-located communities in Fairfax County, where we blend the best of the past with the promise of the future. We are proud of our area's heritage and work hard to preserve our community's neighborly atmosphere.

Your new community is a vibrant mix of neighborhoods, small family businesses, convenient shopping centers, parks and recreation centers, and excellent schools. With George Washington's Mount Vernon estate, Woodlawn Plantation, Pohick Church and the Huntley Mansion nearby, you're only a short distance from some of our country's most important historical sites.

If you are looking for an alternative to driving, consider using one of the many bus routes that serve the South County area. A limited-stop express bus service called REX, or Richmond Highway Express, will save time for you if you are traveling between Fort Belvoir and the Huntington Metro and King Street Metro stations. The Huntington Metro station and the Joe Alexander Transportation Center, both convenient to South County, offer additional commuting alternatives.

South County, as we are sometimes called, is home to Huntley Meadows Park, one of the largest parks in the Fairfax County park system, as well as many smaller parks for quiet walks or sports activities. The Lee District Recreation Center offers many amenities, including an Olympic-sized pool, ball fields and tennis courts. Summer in Lee District features free outdoor concerts and dancing in the beautiful amphitheater at Lee District Park and in the lively Kingstowne Towne Center. Enjoy the best of our local produce at the Kingstowne Farmers Market on summer Friday afternoons, also at the Kingstowne Towne Center.

Lee District has outstanding civic and business resources and a long history of citizen involvement in community and government. I hope you will become part of that tradition and that you will stop by the Franconia Governmental Center to say hello and tell us how we can be of service. Our office is at 6121 Franconia Road and the phone number is 703-971-6262. We can also be reached by e-mail at leedist@fairfaxcounty.gov.
