Registration is open for art classes and workshops at the

Loudoun Academy of the Arts. The next session begins the week of Oct. 31 and continues through Dec. 19.

Adult classes include sculpture, drawing, from drawing to painting and a variety of painting classes in oil, pastel and watercolor, with focuses on still life, landscape and portraiture. Calligrapher, Pat Blair, will instruct a course in copperplate calligraphy for all levels of interest. Ceramics and photography are also offered. Life drawing continues on Monday evenings for artists who want to draw from a live model.

Children's classes for 5- to 12-year-olds are offered on weekday afternoons and Saturdays in drawing basics, painting, sculpting and clay. Hip art is structured for young artists aged 10 to 14, and a parent/child class for ages 2 1/2 to 5 is also available.

The Loudoun Academy of the Arts announces new workshops led by professional area artists:

* Nine Elements of Masterful Painting with Rob Vander Zee, Friday, Nov. 11, 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 12 and Sunday, Nov. 13, 12:30-7 p.m., Vander Zee's 16-hour workshop focuses on the fundamentals of fine painting, instructing participants in expressing power and force. $275.

* Nuts and Bolts of a Critique with Lisa Semerad, Saturday, Nov. 19, 2:30-6 p.m. This workshop offers a rare opportunity to have own work critiqued by a professional. Bring finished work or works in progress Ñ limit three pieces

per participant Ñ and also learn about the 10 elements of evaluation and critique guidelines. $40.

* The Business of Art with Joseph Trigiani, Saturday, Dec. 3, 1-5 p.m. Professional portrait artist, Joe Trigiani, talks about resumes, commissions, marketing and promotion, networking and tips for getting work into shows. $50.

The Loudoun Academy of the Arts also offers Introduction to Glassblowing weekend workshops with Dario DeHoyos, Saturdays and Sundays, from noon-4 p.m. A fee of $230 includes all supplies.

A Better Way to Fitness LLC introduces a new total-body fitness program designed to get moms and

dads fit and toddlers play. Dance 'N Play classes will be offered at Douglas Community Center Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., classes will last approximately 45 minutes.

Class will include cardio segments done to children's music with intervals of strength training, using resistance tubing and the environment. While the classes are tailored for new moms, they are open to any child caregivers from fathers to grandparents, babysitters to nannies.
