An adult, child and infant CPR training and recertification class — American Environmental Health and Safety certification — will be held Sunday, Aug. 26. The class, sponsored by the Loudoun County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, will take place from 1-5 p.m., at the Virginia Rescue Training Center Office 30B Catoctin Circle, Leesburg. The Loudoun Literacy Council is offering two levels of classes in English as a Second Language at the Senior Center at Cascades Marketplace, 21060 Whitfield Place, Sterling. Registration and pretesting will take place Thursday, Sept. 6. Class begin Monday, Sept. 17 and Thursday, Sept. 20, from 10:30 a.m.-noon both days, and run for eight weeks. Students will be assigned to a class based on their English level. Cost: $25 for members, $50 for nonmembers. The Loudoun County Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension will offer a Virginia Gardener Shortcourse. The Shortcourse is a condensed version of the training that Trainees who are new members of the Master Gardener Volunteer program receive. The Shortcourse is held in the Loudoun Cooperative Extension conference room at 30-B Catoctin Circle, SE (Wachovia Bank Building), Leesburg. The sessions are from 6-8:30 p.m. and are spread throughout the year. Dates for this year are: Oct. 25, and Nov. 8. Participants may sign up for individual sessions or for all eight.
