Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

First Baptist Church of Vienna will hold its annual Martin Luther King Day celebration at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15. The Rev. Dr. Kenny Smith of First Baptist will preside over the service, and the keynote speaker will be the Rev. Jeffery Johnson Sr. of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfax.

Musical guests will include the Male Chorus and the Liturgical Dance Ministry from Mount Calvary Baptist and Wanda Nelson of Shiloh Baptist Church in Middleburg, Va. The litany will be delivered by the Rev. Eugene Johnson, moderator of the Northern Virginia Baptist Association; the invocation will be given by the Rev. Herman Nelson, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church; and the Rev. Samuel Barnhart, pastor-elect of Second Baptist Church in Falls Church, will deliver the benediction.

U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-11) and Board of Supervisors chairman Gerry Connolly (D) have both confirmed that they will be speaking during the program, and several other dignitaries have been invited but had not yet confirmed at the time the Connection went to press.
