Members of Virginia Task Force One, an International Urban Search Rescue team funded by USAID, Department of Homeland Security and sponsored by the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department, took part in a disaster simulation recently in Fairfax. The exercise was designed to simulate an earthquake in St. Petersburg, Russia. Virginia Task Force One is one of only two search and rescue teams in the U.S. that is internationally deployable; the other is a Los Angeles team.
