Chantilly High School Cheerleading workshop will be held Sunday, March 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Chantilly gym. Learn stunts, tumbling, motions, cheers, chants, jumps, and spotting. The Northern Virginia Christian Academy Varsity Boys Basketball Team took first place in the regular season NVIAC Basketball league and third place in the NVIAC Tournament. NVCA is invited to play in Erie, PA, in a season finale Division 3 Tournament, competing against 45 other eligible teams. Paul VI Varsity Wrestling competed in the National Preps tournament over the weekend. Junior Ben Pfotenhauer of Oakton won two matches, junior Sammy Ojjeh, also of Oakton, won three matches and senior Donald Baumgart of Centreville won three matches at this competitive tournament. Baumgart clinched his 100th career win at Preps and was only one win away from earning All-American status.

Paul VI freshman Peter Veltri of Clifton was selected for the South-Central All Star team for the NVSHL All-Star game played at the Ashburn Ice House on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The South-Central All Stars beat the North-West All Stars with a score of 7-5. PVI’s Adam Kosna scored the game winning goal and Peter Veltri contributed with an assist.

The Junior League of Northern Virginia’s Fourth Annual Strides For Success 5K Run and Children’s 1K Fun Run/Walk will take place Sunday, April 26 at 9 a.m. at Fairfax Corner Shopping Center, 11950 Grand Commons Ave., Fairfax. Strollers are allowed only for the 1K Fun Run/Walk. No dogs allowed. Advance registration is $30 for the 5K race until April 21, 2009, and increases to $35 after that date. Northern Virginia Senior Softball (NVSS) seeks men 50+ and women 40+ (average age 65) for fun, fitness, and fellowship playing two 7-inning slow-pitch softball games on Fairfax County fields, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, April 15 to Aug. 7. NVSS will have 25 teams organized into 3 skill-level Conferences. Players are assigned to a team at the skill level they meet by skill assessment, not a try out. Eleven fielders are on defense and everyone present bats. An Indoor Conditioning Program for members runs from Feb. 17 through Apr. 9. After Labor Day, Fall Ball, a Sept.-Oct. Season begins. Southwestern Youth Association (SYA) is extending the registration for Lacrosse. Age groups which still have openings are U-9 and U-11 boys and girls and U-13 girls. About Chantilly Youth Baseball (T-Ball & Coach Pitch). Youth Baseball is a co-educational, non competitive entry league for 5- and 6-year-old players. The focus of the league is to develop the player’s baseball skills while keeping a safe and fun environment. Teams typically practice one night per week, and games are played on Saturdays. Occasionally, games are held at night during the week. T-Ball is for first time players & Coach Pitch is for 6-year-old players who have completed a season of T-Ball. Play Soccer in Italy — AC Cugini Soccer, affiliated with Italian premier league club ACF Fiorentina, is conducting tryouts in Reston through December for guest spots on its special Italy tournament teams traveling to Florence, Italy, the Italian Adriatic, and Bologna, June 18-July 3, 2009. The Chantilly Youth Association (CYA) Boys U17 Vikings Soccer team (players born after Aug. 1990) is seeking several players.
