<b>Yorktown Boys, Girls Win District</b>

The Yorktown boys and girls swim and dive teams won National District championships during the district meet this weekend at Washington-Lee High School. The Yorktown girls scored 660 points, 357 more than second-place Falls Church. The Yorktown boys scored 408 points, eight more than second place Washington-Lee.

The Washington-Lee girls took fourth (272) and Wakefield took eighth (70) out of eight teams. The Wakefield boys took eighth (109), as well.

Yorktown senior Kaitlin Wolla tied for the top individual girls scorer with 40 points. Falls Church freshman Laura Schwartz also had 40 points. The Yorktown girls produced 14 of the top 17 individual scores. Senior Abigail Ortmayer, sophomore Stephanie Romano and junior Angela Slevin tied for third with 37 points and junior Molly Merkel was sixth with 36 points. Junior Ann Carpenter and freshman Abigail Young each had 32 points, senior Carly Hinkle, juniors Lydia Carpenter and Emma Leheney and freshman Amanda Didawick each scored 31 and freshmen Ellie Belilos and Mason Nassetta and junior Carla Vazquez-Ramos each produced 30.

For the boys, Washington-Lee seniors Freddy Crawford and Jake Huston tied for the top individual score with 40 points. Yorktown junior Matthew Essig was fifth with 35 points and Washington-Lee senior Matthew Allen tied for sixth with 34 points.

<b>Yorktown Boys Beat Falls Church</b>

The Yorktown boys basketball team defeated Falls Church 63-51 on Friday to improve to 9-9, 5-5 in the National District. The Patriots faced Mount Vernon on Tuesday. Results were not available before the Connection’s deadline. Yorktown travels to face Hayfield at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

<b>Yorktown Girls Win</b>

The Yorktown girls basketball team beat Falls Church 72-27 on Friday, improving the Patriots’ record to 8-9, 7-3 in the National District. Yorktown faced Mount Vernon on Tuesday. Results were not available before the Connection’s deadline. The Patriots host Hayfield at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
