<b>Robinson Defeats Madison for Homecoming</b>

The Robinson football team beat Madison 41-21 for homecoming on Oct. 22. The win improved the Rams’ record to 6-2. Robinson will travel to face Concorde District foe Oakton on Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

<b>Woodson Football Defeats West Springfield</b>

Jacob Luftglass booted a 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to lift the Woodson football team over West Springfield 17-14 on Oct. 22. Woodson improved to 3-4, 3-2 in the Patriot District, while West Springfield fell to 2-6, 1-4 in the district.

Darius Phillips had a big night running the football for Woodson, totaling 148 yards in 23 carries. Vachon Abrams rushed for 94 yards for a Cavaliers team that amassed 302 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Andrew Mackay completed seven of 13 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted once. Mackay tied the game at 7 with a 47-yard touchdown pass to Brendan Hogan in the second quarter and gave the Cavaliers a 14-7 lead with 22-yard scoring toss to Marcus Dash in the third quarter.

West Springfield took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Michael Tobias returned a fumble 57 yards for a touchdown. The Spartans tied the score at 14 in the fourth quarter when Lee Gleason raced 64 yards for a touchdown.

Jonathan Dunn led West Springfield with 72 rushing yards in 20 carries.

Defensively, Logan Hancock paced Woodson with seven tackles. Paul Fridley intercepted a pass for the Cavaliers. West Springfield’s Devon Winslow finished with 10 tackles, Manny Debra had two sacks and Austin Backus intercepted a pass.

Woodson will host Annandale on Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. and West Springfield will host Lee at 7:30 p.m.

<b>Hayfield Volleyball Team Wins 13th Straight</b>

The Hayfield volleyball team extended its winning streak to 13 matches with three-set wins over Wakefield on Oct. 20 and Washington-Lee on Oct. 25. The Hawks have not lost since dropping their opener to West Springfield on Aug. 30. Hayfield has lost only four sets during the winning streak and only two sets during the months of September and October.

The Hawks will close the regular season with a home match against Falls Church on Oct. 28, at 7:15 p.m., before starting the National District Tournament on Nov. 1.
