Workhouse to Host Farmers Market, Mount Vernon Nights

The Workhouse Arts Center has announced two new events taking place throughout the summer on the Workhouse Quad. The Workhouse Farmers Market will begin in May and Mount Vernon Nights at the Workhouse will begin in June. Both are free, open to the public and aim to build a stronger sense of community in the area.

In conjunction with Smart Markets Inc., the newest arrival to the farmers market scene in Northern Virginia, the Workhouse will be featuring an array of local fruits and vegetables, breads and cheeses, meats and poultry, and much, much more. Visitors can stop by the Workhouse Farmers Market on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. from May 24 through October 25 to take a break from traffic, or to get a breath of fresh air and enjoy all the goodies the market has to offer!

Vendors that can be found at the Workhouse Farmers Market include Alma Diaz’ Produce and Mexican Specialties, Blenheim Organic Gardens, Uncle Fred’s BBQ, Wicked Oak Farm, and more! A complete listing of vendors can be found at www.WorkhouseArts.org.

Saturday evenings will bring lively music to the Workhouse this summer. Mount Vernon Nights, a series of free public concerts will be held every Saturday, from June 2 until Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic, lawn chair, or blanket to spread out on and enjoy the wide variety of musical genres that will be performing weekly.

Mount Vernon Nights at the Workhouse will feature music from local to national bands including: The Johnny Artis Band, Chopteeth, Cartoon Johnny, The United States Navy Band, to name a few. Be sure to come early on Saturday, June 23 for the Celebrate Summer Block Party, 3-7 p.m. The event will conclude with a performance featuring Ruthie & the Wranglers. A complete listing of performers can be found at www.WorkhouseArts.org.

Visitors can also make the Workhouse part of their summer plans by coming early to either of these events and strolling through various art galleries to meet over 100 of the region’s finest artists. By staying late, visitors can enjoy a Workhouse Theatre production in our new theatre or join in on a 2nd Saturday Art Walk, featuring artists’ talks and opening receptions for monthly featured artists.
