Brief: Kenmore Middle School Wins the Ritz-Carlton’s U.S. Grand Prize

— Kenmore Middle School has been selected as the Ritz-Carlton’s U.S. Grand Prize winner of the 2012 Succeed through Service Student Challenge. The Kenmore Family and Consumer Science program received $5,000.

As part of Kenmore’s “You can make a difference” project, led by Family and Consumer Science teacher Beverly Coyle, students sewed 300 plus re-useable shopping bags for the Arlington Food Assistance Center out of 50 lb. rice bags. In addition, students held a 48-hour canned food drive where Family and Consumer Science students challenged their peers to see which homeroom could bring in the most cans to be donated to AFAC. The winning homeroom won Ritz-Carlton breakfast parfaits made by eighth grade Life Management students.
