— Dozens of children and their parents participated in the Fall 2012 YoKids Challenge at the Mount Vernon Community Center on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 14. YoKid, a nonprofit children’s yoga instruction program, provides free instruction in yoga postures for children of all ages. YoKid instructors introduced the children to the sun salutation sequence, a flowing sequence of postures that energize and strengthen the body while calming and focusing the mind. Whole Foods Market stores in Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. co-sponsored the event with YoKid. The challenge was to complete 108 sun salutations broken into four sets of 27. After the completion of the challenge, participants were invited to visit the Healthy Eating Fair that included a variety of vendors providing numerous healthy food option samples.
