Residents Nominated for Service Awards

With the theme “Ordinary People, Extraordinary Impact,” Volunteer Fairfax, along with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, will honor real-life superheroes at the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards. The gala celebration will be held Friday, April 25 at The Waterford in Springfield.

The Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards recognizes citizens who are dedicated to making the local community better place to call home. Examples of the many duties these community heroes perform include tutoring and coaching youth, lobbying for improved human services, befriending the elderly, fundraising to support medical research, protecting the environment, rescuing animals, mentoring the unemployed, and more.

The Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards will take place on Friday, April 25 at The Waterford Springfield at 6715 Commerce Street, Springfield, from 8-10 a.m. Doors will open at 7:15 am. To get tickets, click www.volunteerfairfax.org.

Jeanne Sanders, Executive Director of Volunteer Fairfax says, in Alexandria, the following residents have been nominated for a Fairfax County Volunteer Service Award:

  • Bev Morse volunteers with Martha Washington Library and has been nominated for the Benchmark 250 Award.
  • Janet Garber volunteers with Vinson Hall Retirement Community, and has been nominated for the RSVP Northern Virginia Award.
  • Zoe Smith volunteers with Martha Washington Library, and has been nominated for the Youth Benchmark 100 Award.
  • Victor Holman volunteers with Mount Vernon High School, and has been nominated for the Adult Volunteer 250 Hours & Under Award.
  • Samuel Rodriguez III volunteers with The Bucknell-West Potomac Mentoring Partnership, and has been nominated for the Youth Volunteer Award.
  • Susan Helder volunteers with ACCA Child Development Center, and has been nominated for the Benchmark 500 Award.
  • Alicia Haselton volunteers with Homestretch, and has been nominated for the Adult Volunteer 250 Hours & Under Award.
  • Susan Crim volunteers with Insight Memory Care Center (formerly Alzheimer's Family Day Center) and Greenspring Continuing Care Community, and has been nominated for the Benchmark 250 and the Adult Volunteer 250 Hours & Over Award.
  • Juan “Rick” Lopez volunteers with the Fairfax County Police Department Auziliary Police Program, and has been nominated for the Intégrate Award.
  • Amy Baumgardner volunteers with Bethany House of Northern Virginia, Inc., and has been nominated for the Adult Volunteer 250 Hours & Under Award.
  • Stephanie Rheinheimer volunteers with the Department of Family Services, AAA, VA, and has been nominated for the Benchmark 250 Award.

Special guests at this year’s ceremony include the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the event honorary chairs, Jeff Goldberg, Virginia Bureau Chief for ABC7/WJLA-TV and News Channel 8 and other key members of local business, nonprofit and government offices. The event sponsors are Altamira, Dominion, Novec and AT&T.
